Ledochowsky, Chicago 1874-76; composition with Seifritz, piano with Kruger and Speidel, organ with Frederick Finck, Stuttgart Cons. 1876-80. Returned to U.S.; became organist, Oakland, Calif, and San Francisco. Conducted opera company in tours through Eastern states 1890-92. Taught piano, organ, composition various schools New York and Calif. Music critic San Francisco Examiner 1893-95. Lecturer, University Ex­tension, Univ. of New York 1896-97. Acting professor music, Yale Univ. 1901-02. Teacher composition, Ber­lin 1902-10. Dean of composition, Cincinnati Cons, of Music 1910-44; also fellowship in composition, Western Coll., Oxford, Ohio. Honor­ary Doctor of Letters, Miami Univ. 1916; Honorary Doctor of Laws, Univ. of Cincinnati 1917. National leader in American music. Works: Theme and Variations for String Quartet and Piano Quintette in larger form; Wedding Ode for tenor solo, men's chorus and orchestra, incid. music to Macbeth for full orchestra and chorus; Aladdin, Chinese suite for full orchestra; comic opera, Puritania; incid. music to Ben Hur (stage prod.) with chorus and orchestra; Alice in Wonderland, suite for orchestra; Symphony No. 1, New England; Symphony No. 2, Gulliver; incid. music for Prometheus Bound; Con-fluentia for string orchestra; The Pil­grim's Progress, musical miracle play produced Cincinnati, with Ysaye Con­ducting; symphonic suite, The Pit and Pendulum; "Israfel," and "Eldorado," for voice and orchestra. Kellogg, Arthur Forrest, composer; b. Crestline, Ohio, Nov. 3, 1878. ASCAP 1946. Educ: Ohio State School for the Blind, Columbus; piano and violin with private tutors. Played violin, guitar, and organ in concerts in Ohio. Piano compositions: "Rev­erie"; "Bittersweet"; "Gavotte Do-chesse"; "Niagara March"; "Aurora Waltz"; "Fleeting Hours"; "Indian Summer"; "Ballad of a Summer Day." Kellogg, Kay, composer, author; b. Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 1901. ASCAP 1941. Educ.: high school, Hollywood; Mills Coll.; piano with Thilo Becker, Los Angeles, for twelve years. 1926, trip around the world; some time in India. Member Mu Phi Epsilon. Since 1939, special field two-piano compositions. Works: "Please, Lord, Call Me Too," (Negro spiritual chosen by Lawrence Tibbett from competition for his nation-wide con­cert tour); "Give Me a Ship and a Song"; "Cradle Song"; Evening Song"; "May Day Valse"; "Nex Time"; "I'm Taking the Jungle Trail"; "Get Along, Little Pony"; "Song of the Sage."
